Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazillian Butt Lift or BBL enhances the silhouette of the buttock by improving volume and projection. This type of buttocks augmentation uses an autologous fat grafting technique. “Autologous fat” is fat that comes from your own body. The BBL procedure begins with some liposuction to the belly, hips and flanks in order to harvest fat used for your buttock volume enhancement. The Brazillian Butt combines body contouring and natural buttock augmentation.

Buttocks Augmentation

The BBL is a gluteal or buttock augmentation cosmetic procedure based on autologous fat transfer. Overall, fat transfer is relatively safe with low risk of complications.  Fat transfer  requires liposuction to harvest fat from areas such as your love handles, abdomen, lower and upper back, all while giving a boost to your backside.[1]  Contact Dr. Bonnor M.D, F.A.C.S., in Houston, to schedule a consultation.

Benefits of Fat Transfer to the Buttocks

Fat Transfer to the Buttocks

A Brazillian Butt Lift (BBL) results in a rounder, fuller bottom.  Dr. Bonnor will harvest tissue from different areas of your body for buttock augmentation. This requirement leads to the  benefit of additional body contouring at the abdomen, lower back, and flanks to name a few areas. That’s because BBL isn’t just  buttocks enhancement through volume but also a sculpting or body contouring cosmetic procedure that removes fat surrounding the buttock area to further enhance its shape.

Recovery & Results

You should expect some mild pain and discomfort during the initial week. You will need to wear a compression body garment to aid in the healing process.[2] You should refrain from prolonged periods of sitting and vigorous activity while you recover.  The recovery tips below can help promote a healthy environment for the development of new blood vessels in your fat graft.[3] Healthy blood flow to the treated area will help your healing body and produce more visible, longer-lasting results.

Brazillian Butt Lift Recovery Tips

  • Avoid excessive bouncing
  • Wear your compression garment, as directed
  • Avoid high impact activities for the first month of recovery
  • Avoid prolonged sitting on your results for two weeks

How Long Does A Brazilian Butt Lift Last?

For all of its many advantages, the autologous fat graft technique does have some inherent challenges, as well. Among these challenges is the final look of your BBL. Unlike silicone implants, a tissue graft must “take” to the graft site. This process involves your body accepting your autologous cells. Your body will nurture the fat grafts with a web of new blood vessels.[4] Before long, your fat transfer will be as real and long-lasting as any other part of your body. However, 40% to 60% of your fat graft will likely not “take.” So, patients will observe diminished results during their first six months, post-op.

You can expect a BBL to last for several years, and even in some cases, several decades.

The longevity of your BBL results depends on the way your buttocks are treated during the recovery process. Your butt will go through a few phases following the BBL procedure, before finally stabilizing in shape and size at around ninety-days post-surgery.

Additional Procedures

Consider additional cosmetic surgery at the time of your BBL.

Breast Augmentation

Butt enhancement can be paired with breast augmentation using either a fat transfer technique or using silicone gel implants.

Liposuction

The Brazillian Butt Lift already involves  liposuction.  You might consider additional body contouring to make the most of your liposuction results.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I transfer fat to my breasts?

Yes! Some women are concerned about the potential long term effects of silicone implants and therefore wish to have fat transfer to the breast. A cosmetic procedure such as fat transfer breast augmentation employs liposuction to take fat from other parts of your body and injects this same fat into your breasts. This is a breast augmentation option for women who are looking for a relatively small increase in breast size and would prefer natural results.

Can you transfer fat from one person to another person?

Fat transfer does not work person-to-person. Autologous fat grafting procedures like the Brazilian Butt Lift are only possible with your own fat. Interestingly, body fat is a tissue tailored specifically to each individual’s genetic makeup.
