Breast Augmentation Houston TX

Breast augmentation continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States. Breast size and shape for many women is an important part of their image and self confidence. A breast augmentation may be the solution if you are unhappy with the size and shape of your breasts. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Bonnor M.D, F.A.C.S. at Texas Surgical Arts in Houston, TX to help you with the look you desire.

About Breast Augmentation Surgery

There are many reasons you may desire a breast augmentation. Some include: your breasts are asymmetrical, your breasts are smaller than you desire, you have lost volume after nursing or weight loss. There are two modalities for increasing the size of your breast: placement of breast implants or fat transfer.

Breast Augmentation Options

Saline Breast Implants

Saline implants contain saline(salt water) encased in a silicone shell. One advantage of saline implants is that the incision is often smaller compared to silicone implants since the saline implants are deflated when placed in your body and then filled with saline. Another advantage is that the body will absorb the salt water should a saline implant rupture occur.

Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel rather than salt water in order to mimic a more natural feel. Because silicone implants look and feel more natural than saline implants, many women prefer silicone implants. Silicone implants are approved for women 22 years of age or older [1].

Breast Augmentation with Fat transfer

This procedure entails the transfer of fat from one part of your body to your breast in order to augment the size and shape [2]. Liposuction is used to harvest the fat from other areas of your body and using a small needle fat is transferred into your breasts. One advantage is the fact that very little scarring takes place without use of large incisions.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

The doctor will meet with you to review the process one last time before you receive the appropriate anesthesia. Breast augmentation is usually performed under general anesthesia which means that you will sleep and not feel any pain during your surgery Once the process is complete a recovery bra (Marena) will be placed as well as gauze. You will wear this supportive bra for the first week and then transition to a sports bra. We recommend no wire containing support for the first month post augmentation. Finally you will be taken to the recovery room to wake up from anesthesia.

Recovery

After 4-6 weeks, your body should fully adapt to its implants.

After a short recovery period you will be able to go home. This type of surgery is outpatient surgery which means that you will be able to go home the same day. You will need to have someone drive you home and you will likely need help in the first 24 to 48 hours. You will likely be back to normal after a couple of days following your procedure. The next day you will see Dr Bonnor at his office for a post op check and this will be your chance to see your new breasts. You may notice some bruising and swelling which is temporary and usually subsides after the first week. To get a preview of your striking satisfaction, please visit our reviews page. We are humbled by our patients’ kind words and committed to continue delivering 5-star service to Houston and beyond.

After Breast Surgery

While most breast augmentation does not experience any serious complications, any surgical procedure carries some risk. The possible risks are not limited to include:capsular contraction, rupture of the implant, infection, skin wrinkling, tissue damage, changes in sensation over the skin or nipple/areola complex. Breast implants can last on the average some 15 years. Fat transfer can produce more durable results, however the results of this procedure can alter over time with weight fluctuations.

Look and Feel Your Best

While breast augmentation is designed to increase the volume of your breast, it may not address all of your individual needs. If you struggle with sagging, deflated breast, you may also need breast lift with augmentation. We strive in providing accurate information so that patients make well informed decisions. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Am I a good candidate for breast augmentation?

Deciding to have a breast augmentation is a life changing and very personal decision. Maybe you always felt that your breasts were disproportionate to the rest of your body. Maybe you feel that you lost some of your volume through pregnancy. Once a woman has undergone a breast augmentation, the satisfaction rate is extremely high which is why it remains one of the most popular procedures in the United States.

A good candidate should be reasonably fit and near the ideal body weight. Also candidates need to be free of infections, not be pregnant nor currently be breastfeeding. To qualify for silicone implants a woman has to be 22 years of age and at least 18 years of age to qualify for saline implant.

Is breast augmentation a good cure for sagging breast?

Breast augmentation addresses volume loss either from weight loss or post pregnancy. A breast lift addresses the challenge of excess skin and breast ptosis or malposition of the nipple/areola complex relative to the breast mound.

What are the risks involved with breast augmentation?

There are risks associated with any surgery such as excessive bleeding, infection, reaction to anesthesia, implant rupture and asymmetry.

Other breast implant specific risks include:
Capsular contracture -An imperceptible scar tissue or capsule forms around a breast implant once it is placed in your body. In some cases this capsules or scar tissue continues to develop to a point that compresses the implant leading to deformity and even chest tightness. This implant needs to be removed as well as the scar tissue before placing a new implant.
Asymmetry- In rare cases, the final position of the implant is not symmetrical between the two breasts and revision surgery will be required to correct this deformity.

Is breast or nipple sensitivity changed by breast implant augmentation?

Most patients experience numbness or hypersensitivity of the nipple following surgery and in almost all cases except in a very small percentage will have the return of normal sensation. Breast sensitivity should not be affected.

Should I wait until I am done having children?

There are misperceptions about breastfeeding and fertility as it relates to breast augmentation. Multiple studies have shown no impact on the health of the baby when women have silicone or saline implants. There is also no impact on breastfeeding.

Pregnancy should not change your augmentation. Even if your breast size does change with pregnancy, most women are happier with augmented breast after the gain or loss in size during pregnancy. Most women with breast implants are able to breastfeed. There is no data to support that implant placement affects breastfeeding except for implant placement through the areola which could affect milk production in a small number of cases.
